Last night, British superstar singer George Michael was airlifted to a London hospital after a car crash on the M1. The former Wham! Member was in the passenger seat of a friend's Range Rover when the accident happened during last night's rush hour. Michaels is still in the hospital in a specialist trauma center after suffering some minor injuries. According to Michaels' boyfriend Fadi Fawaz, the 49-year-old pop legend is doing "fine."
Fawaz explained, "He is perfectly fine. Of course I was worried, but I have spoken to him and he is good."
The 39-year-old boyfriend added, "He suffered a few bruises but there is nothing to worry about. He's due out soon, but I don't know when. I have no idea what happened I wasn't there."
According to a statement from the investigating team of the Hertfordshire police,
"Police were called at just gone 5.45pm on May 16 to the northbound carriageway of the M1 at junction 6A. The ambulance service and helimed were also in attendance and a man was taken by helimed to a hospital in London. He suffered a head injury. The exact circumstances of what happened are unclear at this time and until further investigations have been carried out it would be inappropriate for us to comment further. The northbound carriageway was closed for an hour to allow emergency services to deal at the scene. The southbound carriageway was closed for around 30 minutes to allow the heli-med to land."
Ambulance spokesman Gary Sanderson spoke to the Haringey Independent newspaper, and said, "A man who we believe to be in his 40s sustained a head injury and following treatment, stabilization and immobilization by land and air ambulance crews, he was flown to hospital for further care."
George Michaels' agent, Conni Filipello, stated, "George Michael was a passenger in a vehicle involved in a traffic accident yesterday evening, no third party was involved. He is being treated for superficial cuts and bruises but is fine. We have no further comment at this time."
