Reports have run rampant that the Rolling Stones were forced to significantly reduce ticket prices for their current "50 & Counting Tour" but guitarist Ronnie Wood told TMZ that those rumors were false.
Wood told the TMZ crew on his way out of Fred Segal in Los Angeles on Thursday that the band "wanted" to lower the prices and that the maneuver was not caused by slow ticket sales.
According to TMZ, more than 1,000 tickets for a recent show on the "50 & Counting Tour" were reduced to just $85 at the last minute.
The Huffington Post reported earlier in May that several websites slashed ticket prices and only then did the opening night Los Angeles show sell out at the Staples Center.
Hundreds of seats were still available just days before the show and secondary ticket sellers cut the prices drastically from the original $250 to $600 marks, according to The Huffington Post.
The tour, which has 17 dates, is the largest for the Rolling Stones in six years and commemorates the 50th year of the band. They first arrived at London's Marquee Club in 1962.
The Rolling Stones played some shows in London, Paris and New York at the tail end of 2012 but the "50 & Counting Tour" is much more extensive.
