Taylor Swift recently purchased a new home in Rhode Island and apparently one fan considered this an invitation to visit the pop star. Not only did this alleged stalker try to visit the 23-year-old's new home, he swam about 2 miles in the ocean to do so! This 22-year-old fan has since been arrested by the Westerly Police Department for trespassing, which is sad considering he could have just watched the season finale of "New Girl" this week to see Swift!
According to a report by TMZ, the alleged stalker was a Chicago native who apparently tracked down the new abode of Miss Swift and decided to swim to it. According to police, the man swam about a mile up to the beach right by the "I Knew You Were Trouble" singer's mansion but turned back around after noticing her security crew. He then swam back to wear he came from.
So after his 2-mile roundtrip swim, he came out of the ocean and was greeted by Westerly police officers. He apparently told them exactly why he was in the ocean around 2 am: to "visit" Taylor Swift. He was then arrested for trespassing.
A spokesperson for the Westerly Police Department said, "There is a zero tolerance policy for trespassers." The police have been in contact with Swift's security team and have already discussed the situation.
Television personality Brian McFayden recently explained fanaticism to in a FOX411 segment that sheds some light on how fans become obsessed with celebrities and then get classified as stalkers. He said, "The warning signs from being a super fan to an obsessed fan are nonstop tweeting, constantly tweeting or showing up at events, saving up all their money from their part-time job and showing up at every concert ... You've got to understand that the world that we're living in now, [stars are] easily accessible because of social media, and we've never ever seen celebrities being so accessible especially mega-celebrities like Taylor Swift. As a fan you [may] start developing a relationship with them. You believe in your heart they know you... "
Perhaps this swimming fan has been trying to reach Swift in other ways before jumping into the Rhode Island ocean.
