At first glance, when you hear about a Milwaukee bra ban you might think the city of Milwaukee is banning women from wearing bras. That is not the case. Actually, Milwaukee was trying to get a historic Milwaukee bowling alley and bar to take down bras hanging from the ceiling. A city inspector said the hanging bras were a fire hazard. However, common sense prevailed and the city backed down, allowing the Holler House to put their bras back up on the ceiling after they had to take them down.
This isn't a case you hear often, but it's definitely one of the more interesting ones. According to the Associated Press, the Holler House owner Marcy Skowronski and her friends started the tradition of throwing their bras up onto skis hanging from the ceiling 45 years ago! Apparently there has never been an issue with this until recently when an inspector visited the bowling alley and said the bras were a fire hazard and had to come down. According to Skowronsi, she had inspectors coming for 45 years and no one ever said anything until this past year.
The Associated Press reports that the now 87-year-old owner went to appeal the decision on Tuesday, but missed the deadline. As a result, her son-in-law took the bras down fearing a costly fine from the city. The grandmother then went to a columnist at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel along with her districts Alderman, looking for help. Luckily, the city backed down and is allowing Skowronski and the Holler House to put the bras back up on the ceiling.
According to the Associated Press report, the bar may be planning to have a bras rehanging party, where they would charge at the door. It seems in this case, the government backed down and gave into common sense.
