The more money the more problems, and for celebs who are cashing big checks it seems as though the most popular problem is paying taxes. The ever-evolving Grammy Award winning singer, Mary J. Blige already owed the IRS, $900K, now according to new documents obtained by TMZ, MJB owes more than $3 Million.
Mary J and her husband/manager Kendu Issacs reside in New Jersey, and the IRS has filed a federal tax lien for three year 2009-2011 raking up a total of $3,426,255.43.
In addtition to federal tax woes, Mary J allegedly owes the state of New Jersey $901,769.65 in back taxes. According to documents Mary J. defaulted on a $2.2 Million bank loan. Her charity, the Mary J. Blige and Steve Stoute Foundation for the Advancement of Women is also being sued by TD Bank over a $250k loan it took out back in June 2011.
A rep for Blige told TMZ, "The Mary J. Blige and Steve Stoute Foundation For The Advancement Of Women Now, Inc. (FFAWN) is presently transitioning its management and headquarters."
The rep adds, "We remain committed to our mandate of helping women gain the confidence and skills necessary to reach their full individual potential."
That's a lot of money. Mary J's eleventh studio album, My Life II...The Journey Continues (Act 1) was released in 2011. Hopefully her she pay off her debt with out facing jail time like other tax evading celebs Lauryn Hill or Wesley Snipes.
