Lupe Fiasco is back with his first new music since Food and Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album, Part 1. His latest track "Animal Pharm," may be the first glimpse of his upcoming album Tetsuo & Youth.
The track masterfully uses a sample of "Ingenue" by Thom Yorke outfit Atoms For Peace. While Lupe had me worried on many tracks off F&L2, Fiasco's flow is definitely back on this one. Lupe weaves countless animal metaphors throughout the verses before backing out to let Tommy (Thommy?) Boy sing the hook. Listen here.
Folks are speculating that this may be the first track off of Tetsuo & Youth, Fiasco's upcoming album that will replace the shelved Great American Rap Album, Part 2. GARP2 was put on the backburner after GARP1 was met with poor critical reception and flagging sales (on top of being not so great an album, it had the misfortune of facing off with what might actually be THE great American rap album in good kid, m.A.A.d city).
The dark and stormy vibe suits Fiasco and will likely fit in well on Tetsuo & Youth, which I'm guessing will either be built around the cyberpunk themes of Tetsuo: The Iron Man or the disillusionment and transformation of Tetsuo Shima in the movie/manga Akira. Either way, heavy stuff.
What do you think of "Animal Pharm," the latest track from Lupe Fiasco? Does it get you excited for Tetsuo & Youth?
