Joseph Gordon-Levitt has written and directed a film entitled Don Jon, co-starring Scarlett Johansson. Originally called Don Jon's Addiction, this comedy focuses on an old-fashioned New Jersey guy who happens to have a bit of an addiction to pornography. He meets the girl of his dreams, who soon finds out about his obsession with porn, thus complicating his well-structured life.
Throughout the opening scenes of the trailer, "Jon" repeats the line: "There's only a few things I really care about in life: my body, my pad, my ride, my family, my church, my boys, my girls and my porn."
The repetition stops as Scarlett Johansson appears on screen, showing us that she will probably cause some change in his life.
Gordon-Levitt's character has developed unrealistic expectations from his porn addiction and has to alter his way of life in order to keep the woman of his dreams. Though the trailer boasts positive reviews, critic Todd McCarthy said, "Crude, repetitive and rigorously single-minded, the popular actor's writing and directing debut lays it all on a bit thick, as the few points the film has to make are underscored time and time again."
Here is the synopsis of Don Jon:
Jon Martello (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a strong, handsome, good old-fashioned guy. His buddies call him Don Jon due to his ability to "pull" a different woman every weekend, but even the finest fling doesn't compare to the bliss he finds alone in front of the computer watching pornography. Barbara Sugarman (Scarlett Johansson) is a bright, beautiful, good old-fashioned girl. Raised on romantic Hollywood movies, she's determined to find her Prince Charming and ride off into the sunset. Wrestling with good old-fashioned expectations of the opposite sex, Jon and Barbara struggle against a media culture full of false fantasies to try and find true intimacy in this unexpected comedy written and directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
