After the massive hype that surrounded Daft Punk's new album Random Access Memories (including teasers, leaks, streams and a massive launch party in Wee Waa, Australia) it should come as no surprise that the album is on pace to break several digital records.

According to Hypebot, Daft Punk is on pace to break the record for most streams ever during its first week of release. The record is currently held by Mumford & Sons' Babel, which hit 8 million-plus streams after being released in the US.

That's not counting the record's it has already broken. Lead single "Get Lucky" smashed the Spotify record for most streams in a single day (previously held by "Macklemore's "Thrift Shop") and has reached 28 million streams to date.

SPIN offered a quick run-down of other records the album has broken:

"The album itself had the biggest-ever first day of streaming for a full-length in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Mexico. Daft Punk also notched a record for one-day streams by a single artist, as Spotify users checked out the duo's formidable discography."

While Daft Punk are almost certainly rolling in the streaming and music sales dough after their masterfully executed build-up to Random Access Memories, they still don't appear to be planning a tour (or...really any appearances at all) in support of the album. While many have decried this move, if you actually think about the album it makes sense. Random Access Memories as an album was about reclaiming the art of studio craftsmanship, ditching samples for expertly-crafted, performed and produced music made by a stable of uber-talented musicians. Therefore, the album would be impossible to replicate on stage without either a massive ensemble of artists who have lives to get back to, or cheapening the entire thing by playing pre-recorded samples.
