In the words of 'Ye himself, "what the f**k they gonna do now?" That thought had to be going through some Houston-ites minds as they came out for the second weekend of Kanye West "New Slaves" projections only to by turned away by local authorities.
Kanye's interesting pre-Yeezus campaign has him projecting the video for "New Slaves" on buildings throughout the world. He premiered the video in 66 cities the weekend before last prior to tearing the roof down on Saturday Night Live. However, cities that may have been left out got their own shot at seeing the video in person, this weekend...unless you happened to live in H-Town.
According to the Houston Chronicle, police broke up a showing at the Rothko Chapel. They disbanded a crowd the paper called "upbeat" and "respectful," demanding that "everyone leave or be arrested for trespassing."
Other showings in Syrup City fared no better. A screening at a city library got held up due to technical difficulties and before they could be addressed, cops swooped in to shut the screening down.
Via Day And A Dream:
"The already restless crowd continued to protest the non-showing of the video, pleading with officers to let it happen because people had been waiting for hours on end but to no avail. Cops then asked the crowd to move out of the street as they began chanting "KANYE!" "KANYE!" and "PRAY TO YEEZUS!"
A third screening at the Bush memorial simply never happened.
Hopefully, these Kanye diehards won't be dissuaded by the "New Slaves" kerfuffle, as his new album Yeezus drops on June 18.
