The Flaming Lips have been featured on volume four of True Blood's music compilation/soundtrack. "Your Face Can Tell The Future" is a welcome blast of new music, even as fans are still recovering from the crazy, droning assault of The Terror.
"Future" starts out with a heavy, depressing drone like much of The Terror. Frontman Wayne Coyne's voice is high in the mix and warbly a la the band's "She Don't Use Jelly" era output. "I know your face can tell the future / And the future's looking bad," says Coyne and the track sounds perfect for the end of a cliffhanger episode where characters are left directionless (and/or a scene of tender, vampire sex).
However, at around the two-minute mark, the song rapidly changes direction. A Yoshimi-esque strum and backbeat enter to add a bit of levity to the track. Coyne and co have been releasing some down-in-the-dumps material as of late, so the throwback bounce is a nice reprieve.

Frontman Wayne Coyne recently spoke out on the tragic Oklahoma City tornadoes (Lips are OKC natives):
"My phone was lying there on the bed and I started getting hundreds of texts...In fact, the top news story over here in London was the Oklahoma City tornado. Reports said up to 75 people were dead because of a storm-and I say storm because all the other top news stories from around the world involved a lot of people dead, but from bombs and people hating each other. The only slight comfort is that these were just good people trying to go to school and go to work, and the universe comes down on them. All the other news stories were this horrible but petty man-versus-man thing. Even though the city suffered a tragedy, I'm still standing tall and thinking, "Yeah. That's our people."
The True Blood soundtrack also features music from Alabama Shakes, Iggy Pop & Bethany Consentino (of Best Coast), My Morning Jacket, The Naked & Famous, Warpaint and Deap Valley.
