We all know that "Baby" singer Justin Bieber has been getting a lot of negative press lately, especially with his recent altercations with neighbors and the police. So when Ellen DeGeneres had Bieber's mentor Usher (the man responsible for introducing the world to Justin) on her show this week, the host decided to talk about the international pop star and his recent trials in the media. Usher, who is a coach on "The Voice" these days, stood by his protégé, saying that Justin is still young and that he "hoping for the best" when it comes to the 19-year-old singer.
Ellen Approached the possibly awkward topic with caution, asking Usher, "Can we talk about young Justin Bieber for a second? Justin who is you know, I love him. He's been here many times ... Obviously we've been with him the whole way. He seems to be um, he's young."
Usher, understanding the territory he was about to enter, calmly responded, "Key word, you started with 'young.'" He then continued:
"And I think all of us in some way have humble beginnings that pan out to be incredible and we hope that in his transition as friends and family who has helped him be who he is. That he'll continue to just mature but you know in this days age of social media. There is no privacy and that kind of trail and elimination period is kind of done in front of a camera.
"It's been done in many, many other celebrities are product of it and some come out bad and some come out good. I am hoping for the best. I don't look at as a negative though. I look at it as a teenager. A teenager having to live his life in front of a camera. Imagine if you had to do that as a teenager."
When asked if he stays in contact with Justin, Usher admitted, "We talk as much as possible ... Obviously when I can be of help I do so. Reach out and stay connected."
In terms of his future with "The Voice," Usher said that he plans on coming back, which got a loud applause from the audience.
He thanked the audience and announced a new project as well, saying, "Happy to know you guys are excited about me coming back. I love that. I do plan on coming back but I'm going to go away for a minute and I'm actually playing in a film called Hands of Stone. I'm playing Sugar Ray Leonard."
