Hot off of being crowned "Meme of the Year" at 2013's Webby Awards, Grumpy Cat (whose name is Tarder Sauce, or Tard for short) has just signed a deal to star in her own live-action movie. This film is already being pitched as a family comedy in the likes of Garfield and will feature the popular feline Internet celebrity in all of her glory. The film is being helmed by Tarder Sauce's manager Ben Lashes and rep Al Hassas as well as Todd Garner and Sean Robins of Broken Road Productions.
Just like the animated lead in Garfield, Grumpy Cat will be given the power of speech. But unlike the popular comical cat character, she will not have an animated stand-in. Tarder Sauce will be on screen in all of her grumpy glory.
"This started off as a picture of a cat, but rare is an image that evokes that much comedy," Garner said. "You read all of the memes and the comments, and one is funnier than the next. We think we can build a big family comedy around this character."
Are you ready for this movie? It seems like a Grumpy Cat movie has always been on the horizon, considering the fame she has garnered.
