It appears that Keith Urban is just as confused as the fans about the future of "American Idol" as he told the Associated Press on Tuesday that he is in the dark with regard to the future of the Fox singing competition.
"I have no official information of anything," Urban said. "I'm pretty much in the same boat as everybody else here with the rumors that have been floating around. I don't know anything more about what's happening next season. It was like this before I signed on...so it's not unusual for the 'Idol' folks to be in this place of figuring out what they want to do, then they always pull it together."
Much of the focus of "American Idol" Season 12 was on the judges, particularly the volatile relationship between Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey. Despite that, Urban spoke highly of his tenure on the show.
"I did as much as I could in the environment we had," Urban said. "I love artists. I love the beginnings of artists when all they've got is raw talent and nothing else. They've got no star power, just nothing going on but just this raw talent that's just beautiful to see, and you look at them and just go, 'All you're needing is life experience...because you've got everything else ready to go.'"
Urban, a 45-year-old country crooner born in New Zealand, also announced that his new album, Fuse, would drop on Sept. 10. He is currently finishing work on the record, but leaves to go on his "Light The Fuse" tour in mid-July.
