"American Idol" Season 12 winner Candice Glover sat down for an interview with TVLine's Michael Slezak and covered a wide range of topics from her song choices to the judges' critiques to her elimination in Season 11.
Here are some highlights from her interview, which is available in full here:
On song choices and reading about herself online:
"I didn't want to do what people thought I was going to do because...I'm the type of person, I know it's not good all the time, but I read a lot of the Internet and where I'm not supposed to because there's some cruel things on there. But someone said that I was most likely going to sing 'If You Don't Know Me By Now' (during Top 5 week) and that's the reason why I didn't do it. Just because they said that I was going to do it. That's why I chose not to. But the producers and stuff were like, 'Do this song. It's like gospel.' No, that's why I don't want to do it."
On the judges' "Church Girl" critique after she performed Drake's "Find Your Love":
"I didn't get it at all and why pick the week that I do a hip-hop song to tell me that I'm church-y? It was weird because he said (clip of Randy Jackson saying 'Every phrase doesn't need a run always') and then the next week with Harry Connick Jr. he was like (clip of Randy saying 'You can never take a church kid like her or Amber [Holcomb] and say 'Don't sing runs'). What do you want me to do? Like, it was at that point where I was like, 'What do you want from me?'"
On pressure going forward as the "American Idol" Season 12 winner:
"I think it puts pressure on me knowing that I'm one of...four (girls) and I'm the fifth girl and the four of them had amazing careers. So I can't stop now. I have to make sure that I do what I can to have a good career."
