Though the Coronation festival is not scheduled for another month and or so, the actual 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation was Sunday and today saw an official ceremony to honor her. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were in attendance as well as Prince Harry and numerous other members of the royal family. Kate looked elegant as ever as she showed off her baby bump with her husband and her brother-in-law close at hand.
The Queen entered Westminster Abbey this morning for the service, accompanied by her husband, Prince Philip. The same music that greeted her in 1953 was playing today at the ceremony.
In 1953, aged 27, Elizabeth II was the 38th sovereign to be crowned in an abbey. It has been conducting coronations since that of William the Conqueror in 1066.
The Very Reverend Dr John Hall, Dean of Westminster told the hushed congregation:
"Here today we gather to give thanks to almighty God for the faithful ministry and dutiful service The Queen continues to offer God and the people of this Nation, the Overseas Territories and the Realms, and as Head of the Commonwealth."
Though most of the ceremony was very official and regal, Kate and the others in attendance managed to enjoy the affair and seemed in good spirits. Most of the speeches were from clergymen and simply honored the Queen with stories of her reign, which began 60 years ago. But of course, some focus was on the younger Royals.
