Legendary song writer and performer and native of Hibbing, Minnesota Bob Dylan is set to perform a concert in his birthplace, Duluth, Minnesota on July 9, 2013.
Dylan will play at Bayfront Festival Park, which is an outdoor venue that overlooks a scenic backdrop of the Duluth hill. Standing on the stage one can see many of Duluth's landmarks such as its Enger Tower which sits atop the hill's peak, and its famous ariel-lift-bridge which lifts up high enough to let enormous freighters through it.
From the stage, Dylan will be able to see the hospital in which he was born. The last concert he played in Duluth was with Paul Simon. Dylan looked out over the hill and said, "I was born on the hill over there. Glad to see it's still there."
Highway 61 remains just out of sight from the stage; however this was one of Dylan's favorite roads to travel in his younger years which led to the hit in which the song is named for.
"He is our most requested artist by the public," said Dan Russell, executive director of the DECC and manager of Bayfront Park, "I expect about 10,000 fans to attend this historic event."
Dylan will be coming to Duluth on his AmericanaramA Festival of Music playing with Wilco, My Morning Jacket, and the Richard Thompson Electric Trio.
According to the Duluth News Tribune, Dylan has not been back to Duluth for a concert in more than 13 years. The community is welcoming him home with open arms.
"The DECC has been working to get Bob Dylan back to Duluth since his last show," said Russel, "Bob is one of the few performers who always remains relevant and the line-up of WILCO, My Morning Jacket and Richard Thompson is the coolest package out this summer."
