Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor announced the title and release date of the group's upcoming album in a news release on Wednesday, as well as the band's upcoming tour dates.
"Hesitation Marks," the band's first record since "The Slip" in 2006, will drop on September 3rd on the Columbia label. Reznor announced the band's signing to Columbia just last week.
The first single on the album, a five-minute track titled "Came Back Haunted," is available for immediate download on iTunes following pre-order.
Reznor announced a slew of tour dates as part of the same news release. "Nine Inch Nails: Tension 2013" will kick off at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, MN on September 28 and wrap up on November 25 in Calgary, AB at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Experimental rock groups Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Explosions in The Sky will accompany Nine Inch Nails at most tour dates.
Tickets for the tour will go on sale June 14.
Last week's announcement of a new album came as a surprise to many fans because Reznor hadn't indicated that he was working on any new Nails material. He has spent much of 2013 promoting and touring with How To Destroy Angels, a side project formed with his wife Mariqueen Maandig and other Nine Inch Nails collaborators. Nails had been slated to play a host of festivals this summer however, including Chicago's Lollapalooza.
Reznor had spent the last several years focusing on other media. He and Angels bandmate Atticus Ross worked together to develop the soundtracks for films including "The Social Network" and "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo." Reznor won both an Oscar and Golden Globe for his work on "Network."
