Daft Punk appeared without their famous masks briefly on Wednesday after an image of their "naked" heads appeared on Facebook.
The French electronica duo, whose album "Random Access Memories" has topped the charts for two weeks now, are famed for making all public appearances while wearing their trademark "robot" masks. Fans got a brief glimpse at the pair, who were apparently attending a meeting at Columbia Records office in New York.
The photo was posted on Facebook by another duo, New York production group The Knocks, who have collaborated with Daft Punk previously. The post didn't last long however, being quickly removed along with a note from The Knocks reading "Guess we weren't supposed to post that pic." The image is still available on Gawker.com.
Daft Punk is confirmed to be in New York City, as they were spotted filming a possible music video outside of Grand Central Station on Wednesday.
The group, which doesn't hide its true identities (Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter) has shrugged off the idea of appearing without helmets before. They've compared their alter personas to C-3PO: famous as robots, not so much as humans.
"The robots are famous, we're not," de Homem-Christo told NME. "We're allowed to have a normal life like regular people and interact normally with people without so much of a fake situation."
The current line of helmets that Daft Punk's stage personas wear are luminescent, gold or silver, and resemble, respectively, motocross headgear and an astronaut's helmet.
The duo said recently that it will be releasing a remix of its hit "Get Lucky" next month. The original recording topped the charts for four weeks.
