In terms of the writing process of a new record to follow up her hit album Red, Taylor Swift tells USA Today, "It's starting." The 23-year-old country and pop star has developed a reputation for writing about her past relationships, but this time around she says that she is "using a new inspiration." With songs like "I Knew You Were Trouble" and "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," Red saw great success and broke records for scoring the highest weekly sales in the US after shifting an incredible 1.2 million copies. That puts a lot of pressure on Swift for the follow up, and she is feeling anxious.
"All the anxiety is starting," she admitted. "When the anxiety starts, the writing happens right after, usually."
Though we should be excited for her new record, the writing process itself might take some time. You might want to start getting your hopes up in about a year or two considering the way Taylor described her writing process.
"Whatever I write in the first year is going to get thrown away," she explained. "I'm going to like it, but it's going to sound like the last record. The second year usually sounds like the next project."
So what can we expect this time around? Maybe some more tell-all break up songs and the like? Well according to Taylor, we might be surprised with how the record turns out.
"I think you need to change up your influences. I think you need to be inspired by different things than you were inspired by before," she said.
