Blake Shelton wasn't trying to pad his own bank account when he organized the Healing in The Heartland benefit concert for victims of the Oklahoma tornados, but he received some good karma in the sales charts following the event's success.
According to Nielsen SoundScan numbers, Shelton's album "Based On A True Story..." sold 42,000 copies last week and regained the top position on the country music charts. It's the fourth week that "True Story" has been atop the charts, but the other three weeks were more than a month ago. The album debuted at no. 1 the week of April 13. The upswing in sales jumped the album from fourth to first, bringing its sales total to 588,000 albums sold. His single "Boys 'Round Here" jumped up one place to no. 2 in the Hot Country Songs charts.
The Healing in The Heartland event featured 14,000 fans at the sold out Chesapeake Arena in Oklahoma City, and the concert was broadcast by via the Cumulus radio company to 84 country stations around the country. Other performers included Shelton's wife Miranda Lambert, fellow "The Voice" host Usher, and a coterie of other country musicians. It's speculated that Shelton's name being on the event helped give new energy to his album sales.
Shelton is probably more happy to hear about the money his event raised for the United Way of Central Oklahoma relief fund for tornado victims. More than $6 million was pledged in support to Shelton's home state.
The sales news capped off a good week for Shelton, who earned the CMT Award for Male Video of The Year for his single "Sure Be Cool If You Did."
