Woody Allen and Sony Pictures Classics have just released the first trailer for the new Allen-directed drama Blue Jasmine. Though the plot might seem pretty standard (an over-privileged housewife has a breakdown), the movie stars Academy Award winning actress Cate Blanchett who transforms a Hollywood trope into her own masterpiece. The film did not get any previews at any of the film festivals this time around but is being released this summer either way. Blue Jasmine also stars Alec Baldwin and Louis C.K.
This trailer introduces Blanchett's character, and the sister (Sally Hawkins) who takes her into her San Francisco home when Jasmine's husband (Alec Baldwin) turns out to be a not so great kind of person. Though Louis C.K. is hardly in this trailer, he appears to be playing a suitor for Hawkins' character.
Allen's last film, 2011's Midnight in Paris, garnered plenty of success for the director, which is sure to carry over in this new, star-studded drama. Expect to see some of Allen's known humor to sneak into this drama piece that is sure to be full of great performances.
Here is an excerpt from the official press release from Sony Pictures Classics:
Produced by Letty Aronson, Stephen Tenenbaum and Edward Walson, BLUE JASMINE has another all-star cast which includes Alec Baldwin, Cate Blanchett, Bobby Cannavale, Louis C.K., Andrew Dice Clay, Sally Hawkins, Peter Sarsgaard and Michael Stuhlbarg. It is the story of the final stages of an acute crisis and a life of a fashionable New York housewife.
