I have listened to Janelle Monae's Metropolis and The ArchAndroid more times than I can count. So when I heard their would be more from the world of Cindi in the form of a new album titled The Electric Lady, I got pretty excited. After the debut of "Q.U.E.E.N." with Erykah Badu, I thought it was impossible for me to get more hyped for this album. I was wrong. Monae has revealed that The Electric Lady will feature collaborations with Prince and Miguel in an interview with Billboard.
From the interview:
"We are great friends, and he is a mentor to us, to me," she says of Prince. "It's a beautiful thing to have a friend -- someone who cares about your career, and wants to see you go far and to push boundaries and shake up the world -- give whatever they possibly can to the cause."
"I had a chance to produce an icon," says Monáe, who is keeping the name of their song under wraps. "It's not every day that he collaborates. I'm honored and humbled that he trusted me. He is forever my friend, and I am forever indebted. I can't say too much else about it."
As for the Miguel collaboration. That song will be called "Primetime." The duet is built around Kim Deal's "ooh"s from the Pixies track "Where Is My Mind?"
GAH. I don't think I can handle it y'all.
Monae's interview is the cover story on the current issue of Billboard.
