For those in the market for a job as a stylist, working for Beyonce couldn't hurt your resumé. The pop star is offering a paid internship for her stop in Los Angeles on the "Mrs. Carter Show World Tour." Paid as in, the stylist will pay $25,000 to work.
Beyonce is auctioning off the one-day position on behalf of Miss A Meal, a charity that works to feed the homeless. The winner not only gets to work, but also a meet-and-greet opportunity with the singer and VIP tickets to that night's show.
If you're afraid to bid because you don't actually know anything about being a stylist, don't worry. Professional stylist Darius Baptist told Yahoo.com that Beyonce probably pays "somewhere in the six digits" for the kind of work she requires, and the winner would at be a stylist only nominally.
Baptist has toured with Jason DeRulo, so he knows a little something about styling the stars. He estimates that a Beyonce tour would require "40 to 50 trunks of clothes."
"For someone on the level of Beyoncé, being on her style team for a tour means that she would buy you out for the whole tour. You'd work only with her," he said.
Stylists not only handle concert clothes, but also outfits for public appearances, all while making adjustments based on the performer's personal tics.
In short, a guest stylist on the "Mrs. Carter" tour would probably find "watching" among their duties, and that's about it. Perhaps they'll be asked their opinion out of courtesy, but the winner will be asking for trouble if they make any suggestions.
In the end, Baptist says it would be more of an "experience" than a job.
