Actress Jane Lynch and her wife Dr. Lara Embry have decided to get divorced after 3 years of marriage and about 4 years of romance. The 54-year-old actress, who is currently acting in the Broadway play "Annie: The Musical," announced the end of her marriage in a statement asking for privacy concerning the matter.
"Lara and I have decided to end our marriage. This has been a difficult decision for us as we care very deeply about one another. We ask for privacy as we deal with this family matter," Lynch said in a statement.
The "Glee" actress met Dr. Lara Embry, 44, at a 2009 fundraiser in San Francisco. Embry, a clinical gynecologist, was being honored at the event.
"I said, 'I want my picture taken with her,'" Embry told the New York Times of the moment she met the "Glee" actress. "I thought she was cute."
Soon the two were engaged and shortly after this confirmation they married on Memorial Day in 2010. The intimate ceremony took place in Sunderland, Massachusetts - one of the few states where same sex marriage is legally recognized. Only 19 friends and family members attended the wedding including Embry's daughter, Haden, whom Lynch has grown very close with over the years.
At The Moms Mamarazzi event in New York City last March, Lynch told People Magazine, "My greatest pleasure is Haden, my stepdaughter. I am surprised how much love you feel and how you would do anything for your children."
Embry also has another daughter, Chase.
