Darius Rucker Boulevard has a nice ring to it! Soon, if you are driving through Charleston, South Carolina you will be able to drive that road. Hopefully without having your wagon wheel rocked!
A Charleston radio station, WEZL, recently spoke with Rucker about the event.
"That's crazy, man. That's crazy," said Rucker. "You never expect anyone to name a street after you. I'm honored that they're doing that."
Darius Rucker is a native of Charleston, South Carolina. It is for that reason he has been donating a lot of time, money, and talent to the city. Those donations are what led the city commission to follow through with the name change.
"I do what I do because I love Charleston. I'm not trying to get any honors or anything. It's because I love the city so much. It's just amazing to be recognized like that."
Darius told the radio station that he is having a hard time grasping the situation. That it is way too much fun for him to completely grasp what is happening.
Darius recently played at the CMT awards, he has his next concert in Ohio on June 13. His current tour will bring him to the east coast starting on June 14, 2013. His current hit, Wagon Wheel, is a cover of the song which was originally recorded by the Old Crow Medicine Show. That version is an intense amount more bluegrass than Rucker's version. Since the two versions sound so much different, it is hard to tell which one is the "better" one.
