In a move that has come to be expected from The Rolling Stones, the band announced that Brad Paisley would be the celebrity onstage guest for the band's upcoming show in Philadelphia as part of its 50 & Counting tour.
The Stones will play two shows at the Wells Fargo Center, and Paisley will make an appearance during the June 18 concert.
The announcement lends a little more intrigue than the previous two guests that the Stones have hosted. Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler joined the band in Montreal for a performance of "The Last Time," a song his band had previously performed with vocalist Mick Jagger. Blues guitarist Gary Clark Jr. played with the Stones Wednesday night, joining in on a cover of the Freddie King standard "Going Down," a song that Clark had performed with the group on three other occasions. Paisley has never played with the Stones, so it's anyone's guess what song he'll jump in for. Paisley is rarely seen without a guitar on stage, so it's a safe bet that he'll both sing and play during his appearance.
Although some may be surprised at the choice, considering Paisley's country background, he's not the first star from the genre to join the Stones onstage during the tour. Taylor Swift performed "As Tears Go By" with the band during its stay in Chicago last week. Paisley has proven his ability to jump genres before, as his song "Accidental Racist" with LL Cool J proves.
Okay, bad example.
Popular musical guests from all genres have been a common theme throughout "50 & Counting." Other guests have included Katy Perry, Dave Grohl, Tom Waits and Sheryl Crow. The trend continues from the few shows the Stones played in 2012, which featured guest spots from Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen and Lady Gaga.
