News broke earlier in the week that two more movies, known for now as The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4, would see releases well after The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which is currently filming.
In light of that, those behind the film have decided to cut Shailene Woodley's scenes as Mary Jane Watson from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and hold them until the third movie, according to Pagetopremiere.com.
Woodley had already filmed her scenes for the sequel, which is set for a May 2, 2014 release, but her character apparently will not appear until at least the third movie.
In an upcoming interview with Entertainment Weekly to promote her new film, Divergent (based on the young adult book of the same name), Woodley addresses the delay.
"Of course I'm bummed," she says in an email. "But I am a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason...Based on the proposed plot, I completely understand the need for holding off introducing [Mary Jane] until the next film."
So it seems as though Woodley is willing to wait, though the fans' reactions remain to be seen. Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker/Spider-Man already has a love interest in Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy, so the web slinger's love life will not get too complicated until the third installment in the franchise.
The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will hit theaters on June 10, 2016, while The Amazing-Spider-Man 4 will be released on May 4, 2018. Fans have a long while to wait before this whole franchise unfolds.
