A rape case in Stuebenville prompted tennis star Serena Williams to be quoted in a Rolling Stone article saying, "she shouldn't have put herself in that situation."
Williams' says she is reaching out to the family of the rape victim, and wants everyone to know that what she said is not at all what she meant. She is aknowledging that the comment that was printed was insensitive, and she is doing her best to make it right.
According to Fox News' website, Serena said, "I am currently reaching out to the girl's family to let her know that I am deeply sorry for what was written in the Rolling Stone article," Williams' agent said in a statement. "What was written -- what I supposedly said -- is insensitive and hurtful, and I by no means would say or insinuate that she was at all to blame."
While Serena admits to the comment being insensitive and hurtful, people are still wondering, why did she even say it? The "supposedly" tossed in there also deteriorates her apology and seems to make it worth a lot less than if she were to have just admitted fully that she was wrong. The Rolling Stone is a very prestigious news source. They are not about to just put words into anyone's mouth for no reason.
Serena Williams and her sister are known tennis stars. They are one of the only sets of twins to both make it on a professional stage in the same sport. They are heavily involved in chairty and donating time and money. This comment by Serena comes off as wrong.
