A previously unreleased Drake track, apparently recorded several years ago, found its way onto the internet Wednesday night. The rapper has said that he's been digging Marvin Gaye's 1978 LP "Here My Dear," and the album's been providing inspiration for his work on Drake's own upcoming release "Nothing Was The Same." The new song, "On My Way," certainly shows Gaye's influence in motion.
The song is a soulful ballad featuring the Canadian rapper telling his lover just what he's going to do as soon as he lands at the airport. James Fauntleroy, the backing vocalist on Drake's hit "Girls Love Beyonce," lends his croon to Drake again for the track. The simple 808 beat operates in the same way as Drake's vocals: slow and deliberate, but leaves no doubt as to the desired effect. This is a song for bedrooms with candles.
There's been no word as of yet whether the song will make an appearance on "Nothing Was The Same," but there's a good chance, based on Drake's description of the album. The album doesn't have a release date yet, but the rapper has already announced a 41-date Fall tour.
