Ten years after the release of their album Give Up, indie band The Postal Service finally made their television debut on The Colbert Report last night (June 19).

Though made up of music veterans Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie) and producer Jimmy Tamberello, the group, which also included touring member Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley, appeared nervous.

They made it through the performance of their hit "Such Great Heights," despite nerves. Gibbard and co. encouraged the audience to clap along to the upbeat electronic number before bouncing around the stage and dancing with Lewis.

The re-release of Give Up came with new single "A Tattered Line of String," which The Postal Service then played for a web exclusive video.

The soaring track was brought to life as a ball of energy. Lewis rocked out and sang her backup vocals perfectly full of emotion, while Gibbard swayed behind the microphone.

Before the performance, Colbert interviewed The Postal Service and joked that the group did in fact "Give Up" because they only released one record a decade ago. He also picked on the group for translating an electronic sound live because "bleep blorp" and asked Tamberello why he chose to play the computer as an instrument.

Gibbard detailed to Colbert on how the album was written, sent back and forth between himself and Tamberello with melodies and lyrics. "2003 was kind of before you could send huge files like that easily, I think I still had a dial-up connection at that point. We sent them literally through the mail," said Gibbard.

Colbert also asked Lewis how she got involved with The Postal Service after having massive success in Rilo Kiley and as a child actor. The singer explained that she and Gibbard shared a label and though the two had never met, he called her up on her "giant cellphone" and asked her to sing on Give Up.

The Postal Service are in the middle of an anniversary tour for Give Up. Earlier this week, the group released an official music video for "Tattered Line of String."
