The Rolling Stones have announced that the band's entire back catalog has been rereleased on iTunes as part of the band's fiftieth anniversary celebration.
The collection involves everything from the rock group's first single, the Chuck Berry cover "Come On," to 2012's greatest hits compilation "GRRR!" The appeal in the re-releases of classic albums like "Let It Bleed," "Exile On Main St." and "Some Girls" is that all have been digitally remastered. Albums and singles can be bought individually as always, but two packages, "The Complete Collection 1963-1971" and "The Complete Collection1971-2013" are available for $150 on iTunes, which get the downloader everything from within the time periods indicated.
As some commenters on the service have noted, the word "Complete" isn't entirely accurate. Although the compilations do feature all of the Stones' singles and albums, it doesn't include all the B-sides, unreleased live recordings and rarities that hardcore fans often hope to find in such collections.
The band has been celebrating hitting the half-century mark mainly through its "50 & Counting Tour," which just wrapped up its stay in Philadelphia with a guest performance by Brad Paisley. The North American leg of the tour was rife with guest performances from musicians such as Dave Grohl, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Carrie Underwood, Tom Waits and Win Butler from the Arcade Fire. The tour was almost constantly atop the Billboard list of highest moneymaking tours. For now the band will return to the U.K. where it will headline the Glastonbury Music Festival and play London's Hyde Park for the first time in more than 44 years.
