Bleeding Cool has gotten its hands on "100% confirmed" casting calls for 2015's Star Wars: Episode VII. This is the first official piece of news in terms of casting for the J.J. Abrams-directed film that has been confirmed so far. Open casting reportedly started today in the United Kingdom and according to these casting calls, the lead character might be a teenage female.
The casting calls are as follows:
- Late-teen female, independent, good sense of humor, fit.
- Young 20-something male, witty and smart, fit but not traditionally good looking.
- A late 20-something male, fit, handsome and confident.
- A 70-something male, with strong opinions and tough demeanor. Also doesn't need to be particularly fit.
- A second young female, also late teens, tough, smart and fit.
- A 40-something male, fit, military type.
- A 30-something male, intellectual. Apparently doesn't need to be fit.
These casting calls seem to confirm another rumor about the lead of Episode VII being a teenage female. Perhaps the since-proven-false rumors about Jaina and Jacen Solo being involved might not have been too far off? A few of these casting calls sound like those characters, but producers have denied the involvement of any "Extended Universe" story lines, so maybe do not count on that rumor coming back up.
One thing is for sure; these "100% confirmed" casting calls will definitely stir up plenty of new character rumors.
Do you think that producers will find the right actors through an open casting or would you rather see some current stars in the film?
No matter who gets cast, Star Wars creator George Lucas will most likely not have a say in the matter. Lucas recently said that he would not be involved in the new Star Wars film, and trusts the vision of director J.J. Abrams and producer Kathleen Kennedy. He also said that if they asked him for help he would advise them accordingly.
