Drake is kind of like a big deal. But apparently not a big enough deal to score access to the Miami Heat's locker room after the team won the clinching game of the 2013 NBA Finals.
The rapper attempted to join the after-party by walking in with a crowd of sports media following the team's narrow victory in Game 7 against the San Antonio Spurs on its home court. Drake didn't have the necessary media pass to gain access, and reportedly said with a smile "I am media" after security asked him for credentials.
A writer from the Miami Sun-Sentinel took pleasure in his job as a journalist when he heard the news.
"I got in the locker room Drake was denied access," they tweeted.
The rapper sat court side during the game and was one of several celebrities shown on the Jumbotron during the game. His single "Started From The Bottom" was played during the game via the arena's sound system, possibly a reference to the team's league-worst record in 2007-'08, but probably not.
Drake is friends with Heat star LeBron James, but the rapper couldn't get the Finals MVP's attention.
"What we have is real family," James said to Yahoo Sports in an earlier interview. "It's not just because we are successful at what we do. We really care about one another on a day-to-day basis. Anytime you get a friend that can come and support you in what you do, I really respect that."
