There was a mixture of shock and awe in the social media universe when it was revealed last night that new parents Kim Kardashian and Kanye West had named their daughter North West. It didn't take long for rumors to break out that the geographically-inclined name was the idea of renowned/notorious Vogue editor Anna Wintour.
Reportedly the celebrity couple had dinner with Wintour in May at her home in New York City prior to the Metropolitan Museum of Arts' Met Gala. One way or another, this led somebody to believe that Wintour had suggested the name of North. Not true, says the ever-present inside source at E! The Vogue figurehead did approve of the name however.
"That's not why they named her North, but it's nice to have Anna's blessing!" the source said.
As those in the fashion industry know, it's always good to have Wintour's blessing.
Wintour has generated a reputation, for better or for worse. For better in that Vogue is one of the world's most respected fashion publications. For worse in that she is reported to have an icy personality, and condescending to the max. Most moviegoers will relate knowing that Miranda Priestly, the antihero played by Meryl Streep in "The Devil Wears Prada," was based on Wintour.
As for the child herself, reports from E!'s source indicate that the child takes after her mother and is very pretty...if that's something that's evident with week-old children.
"She has black straight hair! Lots of it! Looks like a good mix of both of them, but more like Kim," the source said. "She's adorable!"
It'd be better if little North grew up to be a fashion designer. Then she could have a line called "North by North West."
