While on set of his new film How To Catch a Monster in Detroit, actor Matt Smith (and his buzzed head) took some time to make a thank you video in regards to his run as the lead in BBC's Doctor Who. About a month ago, Smith announced that he would be leaving the show after the 50th Anniversary Special and that the 2013 Christmas Special would be his last appearance as the Doctor. Though he made a statement, the 30-year-old actor has been busy filming the Ryan Gosling-directed movie (due out in 2014) in Detroit, so he finally got around to making this video when he had some downtime. Smith channeled Bob Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues" video with handwritten notes that narrated his thank you video.

The quirky thank you video is quaint and simple with Smith simply standing on a sidewalk showing the camera his hand-scribed notes. He thanked his co-stars Karen Gillan, whom he called "the crazy ginger one", Arthur Darvill ("the one with the nose and funny bones") and Jenna Coleman ("the impossible girl in the short red dress"). Smith of course mentions his boss Steven Moffat, as well. But his main message of thanks is to his adoring fans who supported him from the start when he took over the role from David Tennant.

As the last handwritten page is revealed, Smith started to actually speak. He said:

"Doctor Who land, listen, this is a message to say thank you for all your support over the past four years, to Steven Moffat, all the brilliant cast and crew who've just made the whole journey a marvelous one. But really what makes this job truly spectacular is the fans and the support from the fans is truly unique. And it's meant a lot so thank you."

Many fans have been waiting for a message like this from Smith and this is surely a great pay-off. Matt will end his run as the eleventh Doctor as 2013 comes to an end.
