Jay-Z was apparently giving out binders over the weekend in Brooklyn that announced the track listing for the rapper's upcoming album "Magna Carta Holy Grail." The pages feature the titles, some in decorative font, along with lyrics that have been blacked out, a theme that will pervade the album (based on Jay's name being blacked out in the advertisements).
Further investigation from MissInfo.tv revealed the full lyrics sheet for the song "Holy Grail," which features Justin Timberlake and the biggest word-sample on the album: A snippet of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit."
The song appears to be a bittersweet ode to fame as perceived by the rapper. Jay addresses the concept as if it's a woman during the verses, and what seems to be the hook proclaims: "And we all just/ entertainers/ And we're stupid/ And contagious" repeated twice. The rapper apparently spoke to Nirvana frontman's widow Courtney Love to ask respectful permission before using the lyric.
Not much else can be deciphered from the remaining track titles. It certainly doesn't seem like an Indiana Jones-style quest, as the album's title suggests. Tracks named after designer Tom Ford and artist Pablo Picasso are the most memorable titles.
Jay-Z made headlines last week when he announced the album's release via a Samsung commercial during the NBA championship. The recording of "Magna Carta Holy Grail" had somehow slipped by the paparazzi but the album was slated to launch July 7, except for Samsung Galaxy users, who can download the album for free as of July 4. The cell phone company bought a million copies of the album in advance to distribute to its users, but a small controversy followed when Billboard stated it would not consider the free downloads eligible towards platinum status for "Magna Carta."
