Nine Inch Nails New Album 2013: Trent Reznor Reveals He Created New Album, ‘Hesitation Marks,’ Almost Accidentally

Trent Reznor surprised Nine Inch Nails fans in May when he said he had been somewhat less than truthful about his recent activities.

It turns out Reznor had been steadily and sneakily creating a new Nine Inch Nails album entitled Hesitation Marks, which is schedule for release on Sept. 3.

Reznor spoke to Kevin & Bean on Los Angeles alternative radio station KROQ and said that "the reality of what (he) got himself into is starting to sink in," according to Radio.com.

Reznor owed his former record label, Interscope Records, a greatest hits album, so he started writing some songs that could fit onto such an album. But "a couple songs led to a couple more songs" and Reznor eventually realized that he had a full-blown new album in his hands.

He did not know if he would release the finished product and said he was simply "seizing the moment of inspiration."

Reznor opted to release the record and the first single, "Came Back Haunted," leaked online on June 5, one day before it was scheduled for release. The song premiered the same day.

A music video for the song should be released later this week, and Reznor said his new label, Columbia Records, would decide what other tracks to turn into videos.

"You know this time around, I'm doing something different," Reznor said as he referenced his "excellent experience" with Columbia Records.

Nine Inch Nails will be eligible for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2014 as the band would have been together for 25 years.
