When Kanye West does just about anything, there's bound to be some headlines and controversy behind it. For once however, incidents regarding the rapper's live performance across the pond are landing another group in hot water.
The Advertising Standards Authority, a British commercial regulations agency, gave a warning to AEG Live following what it called "misleading" advertisements for West's performance at the Hammersmith Apollo in London. West was scheduled to play what AEG dubbed a "one-off gig" (a one night only show) on February 24, but the concert promoter added two more dates. One was scheduled for the day prior to the original show and another scheduled for March 1.
"Because two more concert dates were added which gave consumers further opportunities to buy tickets... and those dates were announced only two days after the ad was sent out originally, we concluded the claim that Kanye West would perform a 'one-off' concert in the UK had not been substantiated and was misleading," the ASA wrote in its report.
The agency acknowledged that AEG hadn't actually meant to deceive anyone and did not have plans all along to schedule more dates. The group was just trying to accommodate the enormous demand for tickets, and was therefore let off with a warning.
It's a bit of publicity that doesn't stack up to the other legal matter that AEG Live is currently dealing with. The family of pop star Michael Jackson is currently suing the company for $40 billion in damages, alleging that AEG hired Conrad Murray in preparation for Jackson's set of shows in London for the "This Is It" series. Murray was convicted of manslaughter in Jackson's death.
It's been a good week for West however. Not only is he a reportedly happy father, his album "Yeezus" topped the Billboard charts this week.
