From the annals of far too much time to kill comes this: a brand new language from Esquire and the man who created the Dothraki and Valyrian languages on Game Of Thrones. What is the basis for this faux-tongue? A cast-off line from Kanye West's new album Yeezus.
That's right, hearing "They be balling in the D-League/I be speaking Swaghili" inspired these two forces to create an entirely new language.
Here's Swaghili in action:
From: I will be the leader of a company that ends up being worth billions of dollars, because I got the answers. I understand culture. I am the nucleus.
To: Mi ta sababishaya na kompanili i tathaminiwa bilingi dolingi, kami mi nawa ansringi. Mi nayelewa kultili. Mi nuklili."
The language is a mash-up of English, Chiraqi slang and Swahili, with the end goal of creating words that always rhyme with one another.
The article lays out rules for pronouns, verb tenses, pluralization, adjectives and prepositions and even gives readers a few helpful phrases.
Linguists, Kanye superfans, Klingon/Elvish afficionados, Game of Thrones diehards or anyone with a good bit of time to kill should check it out here.
