Over the weekend, singer and "X-Factor" judge Demi Lovato suffered a major loss when her father, Patrick, passed away. The 20-year-old pop star was estranged from her late father, but has been taking some time to mourn her loss. She took to Twitter to thank fans for support and explain the situation a little further. Demi also appeared on ABC News to announce a new project that she says was influenced by her father's death. Lovato is starting a mental illness scholarship called "The Lovato Treatment Scholarship Program," which will help those in need of treatment.
Check out Demi's interview from this morning where she discusses her new scholarship program and talks a little about her father:
Demi skipped an "X-Factor" photo shoot on Saturday after news broke of her father's death. Back in 2009, the young singer had this to say about her relationship with her father:
"You try to have faith in somebody, even when you're the last person that believes in him. But when somebody lets you down after you've been the only one there for them, and so many times, you don't know what else to do. I had to cut off all connection. It was hurting me too much."
Though she was estranged from her father Patrick, she is heartbroken over his death. Here is her Twitter posts regarding his passing:
