Following the statement on June 20 that bassist/backup vocalist Kim Deal had left legendary alternative rock band the Pixies and the release of their first new song in nine years, “Bagboy,” the “Where Is My Mind?” band made two major announcements today.
First, the group will be switching out one bassist Kim for another. Kim Shattuck, of the rock bands The Muffs and The Pandoras, will be taking over bass and backing vocal duties for the Pixies. According to the Pixies official blog, The Pandoras were an all-girl garage rock band, while The Muffs were a pop-punk outfit.
Secondly, the Pixies announced the will be embarking on an “extensive” world tour with Shattuck. Fans of the group have something to look forward to in the live experience. Instead of hearing one new song, “Bagboy,” live, there will be a host of new material.
“This will kick off the first tour the Pixies have done in nearly two years, and will give them an opportunity to do something they haven’t been able to do in two decades: premiere brand new Pixies songs, the first collection of new material since 1991’s Trompe le Monde,” the band said on its official website.
The tour won’t just feature new material, but also Pixies rarities and scarcely played songs. “We’ve probably rehearsed some 80 songs, so we’ll be able to change up the set at the last minute if we feel like it,” said Black Francis.
The worldwide tour will begin on Sept. 29 in Paris.
