"American Idol" season two winner Ruben Studdard is headed back to reality television with today's announcement of him joining the new contestants on "The Biggest Loser" in the fall." Ever since he won over America with his R&B singing voice in the 2003 season of FOX's singing competition, we have all watched him drop weight. After marrying wife Surata Zuri McCants back in 2008, the weight loss continued, but their divorce has brought along more weight for Studdard. He is now looking to learn how to maintain his weight on the new season of "The Biggest Loser."
This fall, the 35-year-old "American Idol" champion will be competing in the 15th installment of "The Biggest Loser," despite having suggested in the past that he has not had weight issues.
"I've never had an issue with my weight," Studdard previously told the Hollywood Reporter. "[But] my family has a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, heart-related issues -- things I didn't have to deal with yet because I'm young. But I don't want to be worried at 40, and if I don't fix things now, I will be."
Studdard's weight loss before his divorce was thanks to a vegetarian diet.
"Every week we would start by writing out a meal plan and calories," Studdard said about his diet. "The people at the vegetarian store in Birmingham are like, 'What's he doing in here?'"
This new strategy of returning to television on "The Biggest Loser" to lose weight is another addition to a long list of ideas. Hopefully this one pays off. At least we will be able to watch it go down!
