After announcing her second studio album The Electric Lady late last week, Janelle Monae has dropped the official music video for the album's second single, "Dance Apocalyptic" today.
The adorable video shows Monae performing "at the dawn of the dance apocalypse." On the set of a Top of the Pops style program (which, of course, has a black and white motif), Monae gives a high energy, wide-eyed performance with an all-female backing band.
Midway through the show, however, a Breaking News bulletin appears. It appears as though the dance apocalypse has happened, thanks to Monae. There are fires, locusts, an earthquake and even zombies roaming the earth.
Though the newsbreak is the most adorable and quirky part of the video, a zombie takeover in Atlanta is not nearly as shocking as Monae's hair in the clip. Almost always in a twisted up-do, the "Tightrope" singer let her long locks flow in the video. And, of course, she looks gorgeous.
"Dance Apocalyptic" is an up-tempo, throwback sound reminiscent of the poppier tracks on her debut album The ArchAndroid, particularly "Come Alive (War of the Roses)," which also features somewhat spooky lyrics about getting down and dancing.

Monae announced that her second album The Electric Lady will be released on Sept. 10 via an Instagram video. Monae also said that the album was inspired by paintings that she would do on tour, which her friends nicknamed "the electric lady."
The record is set to feature appearances from Prince, Miguel and Erykah Badu.
