People looking for a more intimate look into the life of the rich and famous like Kirsten Dunst or Lena Dunham now have the chance. The two actresses, along with eight other celebrities are participating in a new art project, where their personal emails are sent to subscribers over a period of 20 weeks.
We Think Alone, created by artist and filmmaker Miranda July, seeks to give an in-depth look at famous people through everyday interactions. People can opt in to subscribe to weekly emails containing old personal interactions from celebrities.
"I'm always trying to get my friends to forward me emails they've sent to other people - to their mom, their boyfriend, their agent - the more mundane the better. How they comport themselves in email is so intimate, almost obscene - a glimpse of them from their own point of view," July wrote in the About section of the project. "WE THINK ALONE has given me the excuse to read my friends' emails and the emails of some people I wish I was friends with and for better or worse it's changed the way I see all of them."
Celebrities participating are: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Lena Dunham, Kirsten Dunst, Sheila Heti, Etgar Keret, Kate Milleavy, Laura Mulleavy, Cathering Opie, Lee Smolin and Danh Vo.
All the emails were written before the beginning of the project. The first email to subscribers was sent on Monday, July 1, and a new round of emails will be released each Monday until Nov. 11. The emails sent to subscribers were personally chosen by the participating celebrities.
Each week will have a theme for the celebrity emails. This Monday's theme was Monday, where subscribers learned that Dunst sold a car for $7,000, Dunham thought $20,000 was too much for a couch and Heti had less that $1000 to her name.
