Much of the information about The Rolling Stones show tonight at Hyde Park in London is a mystery, including the setlist. But that's only because band leaders Mick Jagger and Keith Richards haven't agreed on it yet.
Yes, one of the biggest concerts in recent years is taking place Saturday night, reports from British media indicate that tens of thousands of fans have already taking spots in Hyde Park hours before the show, and the band can't decide what songs to play. Fans shouldn't be too concerned however, says Richards. The group will just throw something together right before they go on stage.
"We are still differing about certain songs and stuff," the guitarist said. "And also we have to think that we have another one coming up and which ones we want to do this time and what we want to do next week. So, there is still a bit of juggling going on. But, I mean those things can be decided on the night."
Richards has an awfully demure attitude toward what is one of the year's most anticipated concerts. The Rolling Stones haven't played in Hyde Park since 1969, during a free concert that served to honor their deceased guitarist Brian Jones, who had passed only a few days earlier. Jagger read a poem by Percey Shelley and hundreds of white butterflies were released in Jones's honor.
Jagger was adamant that Saturday's performance wasn't going to be a sentimental journey at all. However, the performance will feature guitar contributions from Mick Taylor, who played his first show with The Stones, you guessed it, at the Hyde Park show in 1969.
Other bands serving as opening acts tonight include The Temper Trap and The Vaccines.
