Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez 2013 [PHOTO]: Jelena 'Trying to Maintain a Friendship,' Not Dating Despite July 4 Instagram Post

Last week, Justin Bieber posted a photo featuring himself and his supposed ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez to his Instagram account with the hashtag "Heartbreaker." This is also the name of his yet-to-be released new single, so clearly this was a great way to gain some publicity for the upcoming track. Obviously the picture also stirred up plenty of rumors about the young couple possibly rekindling their relationship that had ended in November of 2012. But are they really back together or are we all just reading too far into this picture?

Selena and Justin have been on and off since they split at the end of last year, but have had a number of run-ins since. Back in May of this year, Gomez said the following to In Style magazine:

"It's uncomfortable that everywhere I go, people know. I don't like that. But Justin and I never really focused on the attention. You can't help who you date. So I wouldn't swear off that or say that's what I want again. I don't know. I'm a kid, and a breakup is normal. I have to go through the emotions and feel it out. I'm doing my own thing, being with my friends, and he's doing very well too."

But soon after, the two were seen in a photo together that was posted and quickly deleted from Bieber's Instagram account. And once again we have this new picture from Independence Day that is tearing up the headlines these days, but one source explains that nothing is actually going on between them romantically.

"They are trying to maintain a friendship," the source said, getting straight to the point.
