Junior Bradshaw, a 32-year-old man from St. Stephens Close, Manchester, UK, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for plotting to rob and murder soul singer Joss Stone.
According to the BBC, in June 2011, Bradshaw and Kevin Liverpool, 35, traveled to the country with weapons (a Samurai sword, two hammers, knives), a body bag and detailed notes on their plans to behead the "Right to Be Wrong" singer.
The pair were convicted and found guilty of planning to rob and murder Stone in April. Liverpool received a life sentence with a minimum term of 10 years, eight months.
Bradshaw's sentencing was delayed in April in order to have a psychiatric evaluation. His IQ is low at 65, and doctors came to the conclusion that Bradshaw has schizophrenia and mental impairment.
However, they also came to the conclusion that he was aware of the plot, that it was wrong and the implications for attempted murder and robbery. Thus, he was sentenced to 18 years in prison. According to the BBC, Bradshaw received a lesser sentence than Liverpool because the latter was the mastermind and instigator of the plan.
The two planned to rob Stone of a million dollars. Liverpool and Bradshaw targeted her simply because she was a young, successful singer. Because she is friends with the royal family - Stone attended Prince William's wedding - the two assumed she would be wealthy and able to give them the money they desired.
The two were caught in Stone's neighborhood when suspicious neighbors called the police. Stone was home at the time the two were in the area.
