Vancouver police announced at 10:30 Pacific time that actor Cory Monteith had been found dead of an apparent drug overdose. The "Glee" actor was 31 years old.
Police gave an initial report to media that a "Hollywood actor had died." Rumors immediately began circulating that the actor was Monteith, known best for his portrayal of male protagonist Finn Hudson on the Fox television program "Glee." Police confirmed in a press conference from the Vancouver headquarters that Monteith was the deceased, and he had been found at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in the British Columbia City. The actor was believed to have been alone, and no foul play was suspected.
Monteith announced on March 31 of this year that he was willingly entering himself in a rehabilitation facility, citing struggles with substance addiction. His treatment was completed less than a month later, April 26, and he was released. It was the second time the actor had undergone rehabilitation, having done so at the age of 19 in 2001.
"Glee" was the actor's biggest success during his career, where he played Finn, the stereotypical jock quarterback who found a new approach to life after joining his high school's glee club. He also began dating Lea Michelle, the actress who plays his character's love interest, Rachel Berry, on the show.
Monteith's first tweets upon leaving rehab in April sounded promising.
sending out big love to everyone. thank you for the continued support! It means the world to me! :)
