Furthering the trend of everybody suing everybody else for anything, rapper and MTV reality show star Jody "Riff Raff" Christian is suing the producers of the film "Spring Breakers," alleging that they based James Franco's character Alien on himself.
Actually, he may have a point.
Both Alien and Riff Raff have long cornrowed braids and enjoy wearing gaudy jewelry, mouth grills and sunglasses. Even Riff Raff's debut album, released in 2012, is titled "The Golden Alien." Still, that's not to say it's illegal for Franco to have based the character on a real-life person.
Still, Riff Raff is looking to sue for somewhere between eight and ten million dollars. $10 million is double the film's original production costs. Still, the film was a success, earning nearly $31.7 million at the box office worldwide. Riff Raff explained his cause to TMZ.
"It's like if I have a front yard," he explained. "And you're planting soil and you're planting trees and building peaches and houses and selling parking lots on my property ... then I deserve to be compensated for some portion of that money."
Riff Raff began his career under the title "MTV Riff Raff," reaching out to fans via MySpace and social media. The network allowed the rapper to use its name in his title because of the MTV logo he had tattooed on his neck, which served as advertising of a sort. He caught a break when he was featured on the network's reality show "From G's To Gents." He only lasted two episodes but drew fans thanks to his aforementioned fashion sense. His newfound fame led him to joining with comedians Andy Milonakis and Simon Rex (under the alias Dirt Nasty) to form the comedy hip-hop trio Three Loco.
