Ethiopian Olympic runner Meskerem Legesse collapsed and died of a heart attack while eight months pregnant in front of her two-year-old son at a Chinese restaurant. According to reports, doctors were able to deliver and save her baby.
CPR was performed on Legesse at the restaurant and on the way to the Yale-New Haven Hospital says, Hamden Fire Chief David Berardesca.
The Courant is reporting Legesse died from massive heart attack although no autopsy were performed.
The Olympian's close friend, Fatima Sene, told reporters that the athlete had to retire from running do to a heart condition, "She always tried to eat healthy and she always makes sure her son eats good," she said. "I just don't know what to say."
Her friend discussed about the athlete's second child, "She was so excited," Sene continued, "When she found out she was going to have a girl, she called me."
The Athlete's body will be sent back to Ethiopia for proper burial.
